I'm back from DEAD...Happy New Year!

Thankfully for Sir Alexander Fleming and his discoveries in antibiotics, I am now on the road to wellness. This germ has wiped out my family for about two weeks now, but we are making a slow recovery. I won't go into all of the booger-y details, I'm sure you have had your own mess to deal with, but suffice to say I am so thankful for oranges, antibiotics, and chicken noodle soup.

The blog has waited in the two weeks of my unanticipated blog sick-cation. It is still here, and hopefully so are you. 2013 has been an amazing year. I started blogging in August, and it has been so fulfilling. I am so thankful to my readers. Over 50 blog posts later (whew!, I didn't know I could write that much), thank you so much for all the comments and the praises! With almost 100 followers on bloglovin' (I'm speechless!), thank you for reading!

Here is a look back at my 2013 faves...

What does 2014 hold in store? Hopefully, more, more, and more quilts. I am really looking forward to designing and putting out my own patterns in 2014. I've really enjoyed participating in 2013 quilt alongs, and I'm sure I will continue to do a few quilt alongs in 2014 as well.

Destash my stash? Nope. Not here. I don't have enough fabric in my stash to commit to not buy anymore fabric. However, I am going to make better choices in my fabric buying. I'm going to buy in mostly fat quarters so I don't have a lot of leftover scraps. I will try not to succumb to all those flash sales. Ha ha ha. I'm laughing at that one already. I've already signed up for a stash building club in 2014!

I wish you all a wonderful and happy New Year! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog. I am looking forward to all the creativity that 2014 has to bring!

Quilty Fun Sew Along Progress

I've been chugging along on the Quilty Fun quilt. This week's assignment was chubby chevrons...

ggg20131215_03

Last week I made teeny-tiny flying geese (1 1/2" by 2 1/2").

ggg20131215_04

Then there are the apples and court steps...

ggg20131215_02

And finally, there are baskets and stars...

ggg20131215_01

These pieces are SMALL. A lot of the triangles are 1 1/2". I'm not used to working that small, but I'm glad to try something new, and I finally have figured out what is a scant quarter-inch. It's really useful to use the scant quarter-inch seam when working with these tiny pieces.

Free Snowman Table Runner Pattern

I finished the Snowman Table Runner. You can make one too. Thank you so much to all my new followers this week. The free pattern can be downloaded here. There is still time to enter the giveaway too. I will choose a lucky winner on Friday, the 13th, at 5 p.m.

ggg20131212_02

I added 1 1/2-inch sashing around the snowman, and then added 2-inch equilateral triangles as the border. The triangles kind of looks like scrappy icicles. The snowman itself finishes at 22 1/2-inches.

ggg20131212_03

I quilted Mr. Snowman with all-over meander ribbons. It was quick and it's festive, if I do say so myself. Don't you love the coal eyes, mouth, and buttons? I sloppy cut the circles and appliqued them to the table runner.

This is a foundation paper piecing pattern. If you are new to paper piecing, then check out my quick tutorial here.

Enjoy!

Snowman Table Runner

Thank you everybody who entered the Sew Mama Sew giveaway yesterday and began following my blog. There is still plenty of time to enter the giveaway. I will draw a winner at 5 p.m. on Friday, the 13th.

As a thank you for all the support, I have been working on a foundation paper pieced snowman table runner pattern for you. Woot! Here is the head...

ggg20131210_02

I'm not sure about the buttons yet. I think I might add some applique instead. The buttons are too bold.

ggg20131210_01

However, it was fun digging through my Grandma's vintage buttons. This was the first time that I have opened the Skippy jar.

Giveaway Day

It's Giveaway Day over at Sew Mama Sew! Thank you for visiting Good Golly Ginger! My giveaway is five lovely fat quarters of Promenade by Riley Blake.

ggg20131209_01

The weather is cold and frosty, but this fabric brings warm thoughts of spring. Enjoy! What would you make with this fabric? Some more fat quarters of Promenade are waiting to be made into a quilt this spring. I'm leaning toward the Double Crossed Quilt Pattern by Amy Smart. I love the x's and o's. Any other suggestions?

ggg20131209_02

Leave me a comment, and I will randomly choose one lucky winner and notify you by email by December 15. Become a follower (link at bottom of post), and tell me in a comment, for an additional entry. I love international followers, but this giveaway is open to U.S. residents only.

The Giveaway is now closed.

A Finish: Warsaw Mermaid

I have unashamedly blogged about this mermaid pillow for the last three days straight. But I LOVE it that much! I'm so happy how it turned out. The foundation paper piecing pattern is at Sewing Under Rainbow.

ggg20131206_01
Ginger #1 has not seen the finished pillow yet. She will have to wait until her birthday in January. I cannot wait!

ggg20131206_02
The quilting looks a bit like thread barf...it's sloppy. I really struggle with quilting. My quilting machine doesn't have a stitch regulator. So, I just go for it and quilt fast, often ending up with thread barf. OK, i like saying thread barf. Practice, practice, practice.

ggg20131206_03
I do like, however, the quilted heart that landed in the mermaid's hands. I didn't plan that. It just happened. :) The finished pillow is 25-inches.

Making Progress on Warsaw Mermaid

It was a relief to finish piecing the Warsaw Mermaid. Whew! This is an amazing pattern, and I'm so glad I tried it. The pattern can be found at Sewing Under Rainbow.

ggg20131205_01

Ginger #1 is going to love it. It meets all of her criteria...(1)sitting on a rock, (2)wispy flowing hair, and (3)PINK AND PURPLE. My girl is so funny. She first said "I really don't think that's a mermaid" when I first laid out the paper pieces. She does not trust me! Last night she said "It's what I always EVER wanted!" when I finished the block, and then she listed her criteria which I never knew about.

ggg20131205_02

Tomorrow I will quilt it and add an envelope back. It's almost done!
