Are you ready for some color...lots of Kona color?
I have been busy making 121 quarter square triangles. That explains why it has been so quiet here. It was well worth the work.
Assembling the 121 6-1/2" QSTs went very quickly. All of the seams nested beautifully.
I will start making the backing tomorrow. At first, I was planning to quilt this with straight line quilting in a light gray. But now I feel like it needs something funkier. How about all-over swirls in gold?
Hello! Welcome to Good Golly Ginger! My name is Katie, and I am a long arm quilter and quilt pattern designer. Once again, for a second year in a row, I am taking part in the Grow Your Blog hop hosted by Vicki at 2 Bags Full. Thank you Vicki for hosting! Note: There is a giveaway at the bottom of this post!
For those of you who are new here, I love fabric! I love thread! I love quilting! And I love designing patterns! I also have a fantastic husband and two lovely ginger daughters who are 7 years-old and 3 years-old. We live happily in Northern California.
I bought my first sewing machine five years ago...watched some videos on youtube, and I was hooked! I started sewing diaper covers and dresses for my oldest daughter. Years later, I sewed cloth diapers for my youngest daughter. About three years ago, I became interested in quilting by watching free motion quilting videos on youtube...hooked again.
My husband and I have fixed up an old HQ-16 long arm quilting machine. He built a table for it, and I keep adding upgrades to it. Late last year, I began my long arm quilting business, and it has been wonderful. I also have begun creating new patterns, and now I have a Craftsy shop too.
I started blogging about one and a half years ago. I love following all of the inspirational sewing blogs. At this point, I am so grateful to now have over 600 Bloglovin' followers. Holy Shmoly! It's amazing, and it really drives me to share new quilts.
Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about me. I have more quilts and tutorials here and here. Currently, I am busy working on two new quilts. I can't wait to share them with you! You can sign up for email updates on my sidebar to the right, or follow me via Bloglovin'...
Now, it is time for a giveaway!

2014 was a fantastic year for me, my family, and the Good Golly Ginger blog. I finished eight large quilts. I gave four of those away. I did mostly smaller projects throughout the year so that I can focus on my little ginger children. :) I created several patterns on craftsy. At the end of 2014, I also began quilting for hire. I didn't feel ready for it, but I was encouraged by others who thought I was indeed ready, and now I have my long arm business going with jobs already scheduled in 2015! Good things are happening! Here is a look back...
The last two weeks of 2014 were spent busily finishing two sleeping bags for my gingers. They love them, and they sleep in them every night. I also made them a 6-foot teepee for Christmas.
So, what is ahead in 2015...
First of all, look at the url now. I dropped the blogspot.com, and now I am just goodgollyginger.com! You don't need to update anything. The old site is now just redirected to the new site. It's a small change, but it needed to be done.
I have many new fabric piles to work with in 2015. The first is from the fatquartershop...
The second pile is a lovely rainbow bundle of Kona Cottons from pileofabric. I have already begun to cut into this...
And finally, I have a secret bundle from Moda. I can't share it yet, but I have buried it under some batiks (hint, hint).
So, that is a lot to keep me busy at the start of 2015. I'm excited. It is going to be a great year! I also finally ordered a stitch regulator for my long arm. I can't wait to start custom quilting and following pantographs. My business is growing, and I am so gracious for that. That is my focus word for 2015. Over the last few days, it is the word that has stuck in my head. I am so gracious for all of my readers, my customers, my sponsors, all the blogs I read, my family, and all of this fabric! Life with fabric is filled with so much texture and color, how could I not just want to shout out "Thank you!" Happy New Year to you and yours! Happy Stitching,
