Downtown Tunic Finish

I finished this lovely Downtown Tunic, pattern by Sew Caroline.
ggg20150527_01
I used Plumage knit by Art Gallery Fabrics and Abalone Cove by Cloud9. The fabrics look great together.
ggg20150527_04
Can you believe this is my first time sewing buttonholes? I have just never done them before, but I sure love how this placket turned out.
ggg20150527_02
The top is extra long on me. I'm petite. So my next Downtown tunic will be shortened to account for my shortness. I really wish that I had shortened the pattern this time around.

Blogger's Quilt Festival : Shattered Plus

It's that time again: Blogger's Quilt Festival! I'm entering my Shattered Plus Quilt into the ROYGBIV category.
ggg20150205_01
My Shattered Plus quilt contains 121 quarter square triangles in 20 different shades of Kona Cotton and arranged in a plus pattern! The finished quilt measures 67" square. The backing, which I regret that I did not take a picture of, is white pin dot on black. Nothing fancy, and I have had the polk-a-dot fabric in my stash for a long time. The binding, however, is fancy. I used the left-over fabric from the QSTs to make the binding just as colorful as the quilt top.
ggg20150205_03
I used Hobbs Heirloom Premium 80/20 Cotton Blend Batting for the first time on this quilt. I figured a loftier batting would make the quilting pop more, and it sure did. I also used gold Isacord thread for the all-over free motion swirls.
ggg20150205_02
And since I never feel like adding labels to my quilts, I have decided that I should just quilt my signature into the quilt. :)

Blogger's Quilt Festival : Gypsy Wife

It's that time again: Blogger's Quilt Festival! I'm entering my latest finish, Gypsy Wife, into the modern category.
ggg20150511_02
The quilt is approved by Ginger #1! I am really proud of this quilt. It has been a work in progress for well over a year.
ggg20150511_04
I custom quilted my gypsy wife quilt with Isacord thread in gold. The strips are quilted with an all-over, free motion tree design.
ggg20150511_05
Each block is quilted with loops, squiggles, swirls, and lines. It took a full week to quilt!
ggg20150511_06
I left some areas unquilted so that they would pop and give the quilt more depth.
ggg20150511_07
I used wool batting. So the unquilted areas really pop nicely.
ggg20150511_09
For the binding, I used Art Gallery Squared Elements in Merlot.
ggg20150511_11
For the backing, I used Windham Wideback Text in black. To me, it was made just for the gypsy wife quilt...perfect match.
ggg20150511_12
One more full shot...LOVE! The finished size is 59" x 68".

Gypsy Wife Quilt Finish

My design wall has had gypsy wife blocks on it for almost a year and a half. Well, now my design wall is empty, but only for a short while. The Gypsy Wife quilt is finished!
ggg20150511_02
The quilt is approved by Ginger #1! She is starting to show some interest in sewing. So exciting!
ggg20150511_04
I custom quilted my gypsy wife quilt with Isacord thread in gold. The strips are quilted with an all-over, free motion bark design.
ggg20150511_05
Each block is quilted with loops, squiggles, swirls, and lines. It took a full week to quilt!
ggg20150511_06
I left some areas unquilted so that they would pop and give the quilt more depth.

Wool batting was used. So the unquilted areas really pop nicely.
ggg20150511_09
For the binding, I used Art Gallery Squared Elements in Merlot. I totally planned on going with a gold binding, but in the end purple surprisingly won out.
ggg20150511_11
For the backing, I used Windham Wideback Text in black. To me, it was made just for the gypsy wife quilt...perfect match.
ggg20150511_12
One more full shot...LOVE! The finished size is 59" x 68".

In other good news, two of my quilts won first and second place ribbons in my local fair, Dixon May Fair. I was so shocked and happy! Sudoku won first in the Machine Quilted by Exhibitor, Lap/Twin Quilt category. Home For Christmas Medallion won second in the Machine Quilted by Exhibitor, Double/Queen/King category.

It was a perfect weekend, and I had a perfect Mother's Day! My girls each picked crafty presents for us to do together. Ginger #1 chose a paint set, and Ginger #2 chose a stamp set. I'm so happy they love art too!

Farm Girl Vintage Sew Along #farmgirlfridays - Autumn Star Block

Hello, Farm Girl friends! It's Katie here, and I am so glad that you are joining me on the Farm Girl Vintage Sew Along blog hop. I absolutely love Lori's latest book, Farm Girl Vintage! There are 45 stunning blocks packed into this lovely work...a serious feast for your quilty soul!
ggg20150503_03
This week, I made the 12-inch Autumn Star block which can be found on page 9. I started by making one block with a Gardenvale charm pack by Jen Kingwell and Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Elements in Empire Yellow.
ggg20150504_01
I love the Folded Corner Clipper for all of Lori's patterns. It chops off the corners, leaving a quarter inch seam allowance. No need to draw that diagonal line!
ggg20150507_03
So, why not make three blocks?! Here is my Autumn Star table runner. It finishes at 12" x 36". I bound it with Sara Lawson's Jungle Ave in Dotted Boulevard. Yes, I did use this blog hop as an excuse to buy macroons. I needed them to make this photo even lovelier (nom nom nom).
ggg20150507_01
OK, let's switch tables because there are macaroon crumbs on the other table...
ggg20150507_02
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. Check out Sew Fresh Quilts today to see Lorna and her adorable baby chick block. I can't wait to see what you make, use #farmgirlfridays.

Happy Mother's Day to all you quilty moms out there!!! Enjoy your weekend!
