I am so excited to share my Home For Christmas Medallion quilt for the Blogger's Quilt Festival. This quilt will be entered into the Original Design quilt category. Thank you so much to Amy at Amy's Creative Side for hosting this wonderful event!
The center star of the medallion is three concentric stars. This is surrounded by presents with colorful bows. The next border is peppermints. Christmas trees and corner ornaments surround the peppermints. A candy cane border surrounds all those Christmas trees. Finally, a border of bright suburban houses finishes the quilt with corner friendship stars.
I free-motion-quilted the quilt with an all-over swirl design. I love the texture from the dense quilting. It washed up all crinkly and beautiful.
The binding echoes the candy cane border. SWEET!

Happy Stitching,
Over the weekend, I put the finishing touches on my new Home For Christmas Medallion quilt.
I used Kona Cotton solids for all of the piecing.
Please ignore the horse manure in picture below. Yes, I will step in horse manure to get the perfect lighting for a photograph! It was worth it!
I love a quilt all rolled up. It's a bundle of happiness just waiting to be used.

I love that the quilt doesn't scream "Use for Christmas ONLY". It is more subtle, and I can use it for the entire winter season. Frankly, I'm sure this will stay in my living room year-round!
I free-motion-quilted the quilt with an all-over swirl design. It took seven bobbins of Isacord thread and two spools to finish all the quilting! The binding echoes the candy cane border.

Happy Stitching,
Seven large bobbins and two spools of white Isacord thread, and it is quilted. I free motion quilted meandering hooks.
I have always wanted to do a swirly pattern, and now I finally got it...I'll call it meandering hooks. Something clicked this time around, and I'm not sure what changed.
I had to rip out about 1000 stitches, twice. Serves me right for not checking the underside of the quilt when I adjust the tension. I was so mad the second time that happened.
But all the ripping was worth it. I'm so happy, and I'm ready to bind it all together. Almost done.
So, finishing this quilt is my October goal for ALYoF. Not too hard considering I'm 90% done. My goals for FAL Q4 (Wow! Is it the last quarter already?!) is also to finish this. Also, I want to make two lap-size quilts for some wonderful people in my life. I'm thinking an abacus design and a large star design. After two big quilts, I'm yearning to make something smaller and simpler to gift.
Next week, I will be busy writing the pattern for this quilt. I love pattern writing. It's fun to have the quilt design simplified into manageable pieces. I get to play with shapes in Illustrator too. It's like being a kid again. I'm nuts!

Happy Stitching,
September has been all about the Home For Christmas Medallion quilt. The top is finished! <insert happy dance here>
My ALYoF goal for this month was to complete the top, and that I did (just under the wire).
I love it! I love it! I LOVE envisioning a quilt in my head, and over the course of a month, seeing it come to life. It is the best when there aren't too many piecing problems, and this one went together easily.
A center radiating star is surrounded by bright Christmas present, peppermints, Christmas trees and ornaments, then a candy cane border, and finally cheery houses with friendship corner stars. It's definitely Christmasy, but not so over the top.
I love those little houses! Now it's time to get to quilting! I can't wait to show you the finished quilt...hopefully, next week.
